TONGUE TIE is the restricted mobility of the tongue resulting from tight frenulum. Also called ankyloglossia.
Some studies have shown that about four per cent of babies have TONGUE TIE.
If you and your baby are finding breastfeeding difficult, you can ask your lactation consultant, nurse or doctor to check for TONGUE TIE. A full newborn exam will include a sublingual examination.
Understanding of TONGUE TIE and of Frenotomy is valuable to professionals involved with feeding, speech and oral issues.
